Ars legis is pro publico bono organisation grouping students of law their professors and professional lawyers mainly of religious and right-wing background. That needed to be mirrored in the layout of their webpage. That is the reason the page is so ascetic in form.
It was my first bigger commercial job (Dec 2005) - so there are couple of things I do not do anymore - tables, for instance. But - does well in search engines and so far no need to change it. Also it still serves well because of build-in news publishing system based on open source Cute News.
The main theme - with St. Ivo, their patron - become so popular that it was taken as a 'visual identity' and was almost unchanged used with all the printed materials - posters, bookmark, leaflets, CD cover.
